BISHOP'S STORTFORD
This fast growing town on the Herts/Essex
border is set to grow even more if nearby Stansted airport expands
as threatened. the centre retains some character, and as usual
it is here that the pubs are- although choice for the cask ale
fan is limited; indeed the only unconditionally recommended option
is the *HALF MOON, North St, a 17th century building with two
beer gardens, and a lively pub music scene. A
range of beers available. Map
here;
Other possibilities: The CASTLE,
Castle Street (Off New Town Road) is only a Pubmaster establishment,
but does do good Adnams and Occasional Charles Wells. The Red
Cow in Dunnmow does Adnams and now is a regular outlet for the
Local Green Tye Brewery. This pub has improved greatly over the
last year or so.
Out of town, Beerhound recommends
the GATE (81 London Rd) at Sawbridgeworth (about 3 Miles
from Stortford; direct buses - 333 hourly and 510 every 30 Mins).is
. This has usally about 7 real ales on all from independents,
and is home to the Sawbridgeworth brewery.
