MAIDENHEAD
Like everywhere
along the M4 corridor the place has spawned sprawling unattractive
suburbs although the old town is pleasant enough and easy to get
to, via direct rail from Paddington, M4/A404(M) or the old Great
West Road A4.
Its not the most exciting place for imbibing, although there are
a couple of options close to the York Road ground. Try the VINE*
in Market St which offers Brakspears' beers and food, not much
more than a 5 minute walk from station or the ground. Even closer
is the HAND & FLOWERS*, 15 Queen St, recently refurbished
to retain its character, a Brakspears pub with good food.
*2003
footnote: current reports from these two pubs welcome since the
sale of Brakspears brewery last year. Any changes?
If you want a wider beer range then head out of town westwards
on the A4 to the POND HOUSE at Boyn Hill (53 Bath Rd) which offers
a range of 'usual suspects' including London Pride, Wadworth's
6X and Old Speckled Hen as well as guests. Its about a mile from
the ground.
