GRAYS:

There is much competition for the accolade of the 'worst football clubhouse' when it comes to real ale- there are probably about twenty three contenders for joint bottom spot!

No doubts though about the top spots- Grays boasts a club house that is a regular in the Good Beer Guide; the regular ale is Greene King IPA, plus one or two guests which change very frequently and prove that real ale can work in a club house. . An example for the rest of us to follow- how about it?
In town, the THEOBALD ARMS* at 141 Argent St. (turn right at the southern end of Bridge Rd where the ground is), a Courage house, retains its public bar and offers good value grub. The changing guest beer menu includes Ridleys,Wolf,Mighty Oak, and Crouch Vale. Probably the best real ale venue for miles around. A few miles north in Orsett is the
KING'S ARMS with Tetleys and Greene King available along with guest beers. At Orsett Heath the FOX (176 Heath Rd, Grid ref. 639800) offers Crouch Vale beers and guests, and has both an attractive garden and a public bar along with an upmarket saloon. Food.
