FARNBOROUGH

Easily accessible from London Waterloo station or by road from the M3, Farnborough has spawned huge estates of Barrett and Wimpey homes which are fast covering the heathlands on the Surrey/Hampshire border- not promising territory for the beer seeker, and there are lots of awful plastic boozers to ensnare the unsuspecting....... Beerhound to the rescue!

The PRINCE OF WALES* (1) on Rectory Rd close to North station (but only a half mile walk from Farnborough Main) is the best bet if you only have time for one stop. This free house offers a wide range of attractive beers in good condition, usually including Fullers and Hogs Back. What's more, it has just been nominated 'pub of the year' by Hampshire CAMRA branches. 'nuff said!
Lunchtime food available.
The THATCHED COTTAGE (2) on the Prospect Rd is close to the ground and although a Scottish & Newcastle house has varying guest beers on offer and is worth a try.
A mile from the ground in Cove is the OLD COURT HOUSE*(3), 80 Cove Rd, a suburban pub withn a strong food emphahsis but a good range of beers. Expect London Pride, Bass, Hancocks and guests.
Finally the ALEXANDRA (4), an improving Ushers / Courage house has occasional guest ales, and is worth a look.
