ALDERSHOT

A wide choice of ale awaits the visitor to this military town on the Hampshire/Surrey borders. Moreover the ground is very close to the station so there's no excuse for not coming by train and therefore visiting a good number of them!
Pick of the bunch arguably is the RED LION*(1) on the A323 Ash Road, east of the town centre but less than half a mile from the ground. A genuine free house with a landlord who supports independent small breweries. No food available at match times however..
Another favourite for the ale drinker, where the food comes recommended, is the DUKE OF YORK(2) on the Weybourne Rd (B3007). Those making the trip (1 1/4 miles) to the Duke from the ground will be rewarded with a traditional multi-roomed local (with nice basic public bar) and a good range of guest beers, with Courage and London Pride the regulars.
The HOGSHEAD(3) on the Victoria Rd between the station and the ground has the usual Whitbread beers and guests but you may also find some interesting guests too and a good chance of something from one of the local independents like Hogs Back.
Fans of Fullers' ales might well want to head for the ROYAL STAFF*(4), (Mount Pleasant Rd, just off the High St via Redan Hill or Waterloo Rd),a nicely restored Victorian pub with Fuller's ales in good condition. If you have brought your young offspring to the game there is a safe enclosed garden in which to put them. In the High Street is the BEEHIVE (5) is now a Greene King pub with Smiles best often on tap too. This is also a meeting place for 'Shots fans so you may get some banter before the game.
Nearby, still in the High Street, the GOLDEN LION (6) has a football connection as it is run by an ex-'Shots league player and erstwhile captain, Joe Jopling.
The third GBG listed pub in town is the GARDEN GATE*(7) in Church Lane East, about half a mile from the ground, a basic but friendly local serving a range of Greene King ales and offering food.
